{"id":1393,"date":"2012-01-03T21:19:17","date_gmt":"2012-01-04T02:19:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/keepingscoreathome.com\/?p=1393"},"modified":"2012-01-10T17:04:23","modified_gmt":"2012-01-10T22:04:23","slug":"2011-christmas-stories","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/keepingscoreathome.com\/?p=1393","title":{"rendered":"2011 Christmas Stories."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"images\/christmastreetop.jpg\" width=\"450\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Roughly three weeks before the 2011 edition of the 24-Hour Holiday Radio Show, I had the idea to ask a number of friends, musicians, comedians and others that I admired to record their definitions of an original &#8220;Christmas story&#8221; to intersperse throughout the program.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the limited amount of time between the moment this concept came to me while stuck on Route 206 and Christmas Eve, I was thrilled both with the submissions that I received and the quality of them all. Some were unexpectedly bloody, some were legitimately funny, some were fully realized songs, more than one involved a dead pet.<\/p>\n<p>Hopefully I&#8217;ll be able to expand this project in 2012. It would be great to have one new piece to debut each hour. <\/p>\n<p>Below you&#8217;ll find all the 2011 Christmas Stories in the order they originally aired on WPRB (minus one I yet to have permission to post). <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/elmoodio\" target=\"_new\">Rick Rizzo<\/a> &#8211; <i>Bloody Christmas<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.recentamericanplaygrounds.com\/ksah\/bloodychristmas.mp3\">Rick Rizzo<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rick Rizzo is a founding member of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thrilljockey.com\/artists\/?id=10015\" target=\"_new\">Eleventh Dream Day<\/a>. Their 10th album &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thrilljockey.com\/catalog\/index.html?id=105206\" target=\"_new\">Riot Now!<\/a>&#8221; is one of 2011&#8217;s best.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/karleedeanandbillgoffrier.bandcamp.com\/track\/the-littlest-tree\" target=\"_new\">Karlee Dean &#038; Bill Goffrier<\/a> \u2013 <i>The Littlest Tree<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.recentamericanplaygrounds.com\/ksah\/thelittlesttree.mp3\">Karlee Dean &#038; Bill Goffrier<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Bill Goffrier was in two of my favorite purveyors of terminal plaid shirt rock, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.embos.org\/\" target=\"_new\">The Embarrassment<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Big-Dipper\/7762381483\" target=\"_new\">Big Dipper<\/a>. He has a new collection available called &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdbaby.com\/cd\/billgoffnerandsaucer\" target=\"_new\">The Saucer Years<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/artist\/joel-r.l.-phelps\/id19090876\" target=\"_new\">Joel RL Phelps<\/a> \u2013 <i>Someday Soon (We Will All Be Together)<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.recentamericanplaygrounds.com\/ksah\/somedaysoon.mp3\">Joel RL Phelps<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I am not lying when I say getting three songs emailed me to at the last minute by Joel Phelps was nothing short of a Christmas miracle in my book. When I think of my favorite &#8220;unique American voices,&#8221; he&#8217;s at the front of a list of artists (see also House, Ron and Gelb, Howe) where I will listen to and love anything they do.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/theholdingcourtpodcast.com\/\" target=\"_new\">Aaron Hertzog &#038; Gregg Gethard<\/a> \u2013 <i>A Holding Court Christmas<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.recentamericanplaygrounds.com\/ksah\/holdingcourt.mp3\">Holding Court<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Aaron and Gregg are the gentlemen behind the rambling, circuitous NBA-centric podcast <a href=\"http:\/\/theholdingcourtpodcast.com\/\" target=\"_new\">Holding Court<\/a>. We appear to share a love of the early &#8217;00s Sacramento Kings.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/scharpling\" target=\"_new\">Tom Scharpling<\/a> \u2013 <i>Christmas Story<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.recentamericanplaygrounds.com\/ksah\/scharpling.mp3\">Tom Scharpling<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tom Scharpling hosts <a href=\"http:\/\/www.friendsoftom.com\" target=\"_new\">The Best Show On WFMU<\/a> every Tuesday night, but you already knew that. This piece was followed by the William S. He also played in a band called <a href=\"http:\/\/keepingscoreathome.com\/?p=335\" target=\"_new\">Greyhounds<\/a>, who visited my show in 2007. Not sure if he wants you to know that or not.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/thezog\" target=\"_new\">Seth Herzog<\/a> \u2013 <i>My Christmas<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.recentamericanplaygrounds.com\/ksah\/herzog.mp3\">Seth Herzog<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Seth is apparently the warm-up comic these days for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latenightwithjimmyfallon.com\/\" target=\"_new\">Late Night with Jimmy Fallon<\/a>. He brings unto you a weekly show called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/09\/11\/arts\/television\/seth-herzogs-comedy-show-sweet-in-the-east-village.html?pagewanted=all\" target=\"_new\">Sweet<\/a> in Manhattan that I am overdue to attend with all sorts of impressive guests.
