Good luck on your Christmas marathon. I’ve been a Christmas music addict for decades and collected many lp’s in my youth and now have over 580 Christmas CD’s in my collection. In 1995 while working at a local radio station as a talk show host, I convinced the PD to allow me to do a Christmas Eve music show with stuff from my personal collection. The PD allowed me to do so and said if I wanted to go more than 6 hours to do so but to remember to turn the automation on when I finished. I ended up doing 8 hours and didn’t repeat the same song twice. My collection has grown mightily since then and I’ve been wanting to do a Christmas show again. Last year I was unemployed as of August. So I figured it would be a good time to try to do that Christmas show so I put together a publicity packet and sent one to every radio station in the Tallahassee area and followed it up with emails and a snail-mail letter.

    No takers.

The closest was the PD of the “Cool Jazz” station who informed me they already contracted to go with a satellite service for their Christmas music but to contact him the next year (2007). I was all set to do so but actually got a job.

    Working nights.

And since I’m low man in the pecking order, I get to work Christmas Eve.

So much for that dream for another year.

    But I’m not giving up.

One day, I’m going to convince a PD here in the Tallahassee area to let me do a Christmas Eve show…maybe even a 24-hour marathon like yours…with music from my collection as well as their playlist and I know that I will blow the listeners away. I know it will go over well and I will impress them so hopefully they will invite me back the following year. In 1995, the show I did went over extremely well and got so much positive response the PD was planning on me doing an expanded show with better equipment. But fate intervened and the Borg…known also as Clearchannel…bought the station and made not only a format change but also major changes in management so that opportunity died.

I ended up working for a local TV station for 10 years (they’re the ones who fired me August of 2006 – well actually the President of the station was told by the owners to cut costs and I was one of the casulties) and each Christmas I’d produce, direct and edit special Christmas kickers and packages using music from my Christmas collection. All of them were very popular with viewer especially the two years I produced “Twas The Night Before Christmas” using ALL the station’s anchors, reporters, sports people and meteorologists. I did it all. Put the special set together. Scheduled the talent. Taped it. Directed it. Produced it. Edited it. I am proud of those.

Anyway, Christmas music is and always will be a passion of mine and I wish I could tune into your show. If you’re interested, a list of my Christmas CD collection is located at http://www.anniemayhem.com/Christmas%20Music/ChristmasCDs.doc

It’s almost up-to-date. I need to add a couple of Christmas CD’s that arrived in the mail Friday.

Again, good luck with your Christmas marathon.
