Talking Musicality and Race in Early American Punk with Evan Rapport on Wednesday night.

It is the WPRB Fall Silent Drive and to mark the occasion I’ve got a special broadcast for you this Wednesday, October 27th from 5-8 pm ET.

I’ll be airing an extended conversation with professor Evan Rapport about Damaged: Musicality and Race in Early American Punk, the first book-length account of American punk as a musical style with an emphasis on how punk developed in relation to changing ideas of race in American society from the late 1960s to the early 1980s.

Our in-depth discussion will be interspersed all evening with myriad sonic examples of the bands, musical models, forms and styles we’re examining.
