The public call for 2013 Christmas Stories!

Over the last two years I have asked a number of friends, musicians, comedians and others that I admired to record their definition of an original “Christmas story” to be interspersed throughout my annual 24-Hour Holiday Radio Show on 103.3 fm WPRB.

Come December 24, 2013 – which is two months from today – the 25th annual edition of this marathon program will begin – a special 25-HOUR SHOW.

In 2011 and 2012, the likes of Mac McCaughan (Superchunk), Tom Scharpling (“The Best Show on WFMU”), director Lance Bangs, Chris Brokaw, Jennifer O’Connor, Rick Rizzo (Eleventh Dream Day), Bill Goffrier (The Embarrassment/Big Dipper), Joel R.L. Phelps (Silkworm/The Downer Trio), Daniel Ralston (“Low Times”), Dana Rossi (“The Soundtrack Series”) Aaron Herzog and Gregg Gethard (“The Holding Court Podcast”), Seth Herzog (“Late Night with Jimmy Fallon”), author Matthew Callan (“Replacement Players”) and actor Ethan Sandler (“Crossing Jordan”) have recorded pieces for the marathon.

The time has come to build on this success with plenty of advance warning!

I’m not only going to be reaching out to more folks personally to record works for the marathon’s quarter century installment but I also wanted to extend the offer TO YOU.

Record something between now and December 20th and there’s a solid chance it will make it into the show. It can be a reading of a favorite Xmas story, a cover of a holiday song you love or an original piece. I leave that in your hands. Listen to some of the past works as inspiration if you’ve been stumped when I’ve called on you previously.

It would be great if these contributions did not exceed six minutes but if you run long…I am likely going to allow it.

I’d love to get so many recordings that I can debut one of these an hour throughout the marathon.

2013 WPRB Membership Drive show: New Jersey

103.3 fm WPRB’s 2013 Membership Drive kicked off this morning. My lone show of this year’s week-long drive will be on Wednesday, October 9 from 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm ET.

You can also find me joining Molly on The Front Porch on Tuesday from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm ET and Chester with Totally Wired on Thursday night from 9:00 pm ET – 11:00 pm ET.

This is the one time of year that WPRB calls upon its listeners to show financial support to keep the station independent, innovative, commercial-free and competitive in a crowded digital world.

2013 also marks 25 years of my involvement with WPRB. This station means as much to me now as it did when I was a teenager and if the programming I’ve produced on WPRB has impacted you in any way I know you’ll contribute to the drive on Wednesday night.

If you’ve given in years past, I am sure I can count on you again.

I’d especially love to hear from those of you who haven’t pledged previously and get you to join the WPRB family for the first time.

This year’s theme for my program pays tribute to the state WPRB calls home – NEW JERSEY.

Expect three hours of songs about and bands from the Garden State. Please let me know if you have requests and I’ll do by best to honor them.
